The Cauldron 36 Hour Adventure Race
January 27 & 28 2018
The Cauldron returns in 2018 with a new course arrangement and fantastic new locations! This year's Cauldron has been designed to showcase the beauty and epic wilderness along the banks of the Suwannee River. With a strong focus on remoteness, self-sufficiency, and strategic decision making, the Cauldron aims to bring the flavor of an expedition into a weekend race.
The Cauldron will send racers through numerous distinct biological communities on foot, bike, and canoe. Significant sections of the race are on rarely used remote parcels yet to be seen in a public event. Racers can expect to traverse numerous limestone outcroppings, floodplain forest, floodplain swamp, river bluffs and alluvial streams. Racers will be visiting natural springs and sinks and may see Kingfisher, Rough-winged Swallow,, jumping sturgeon and Doughterty Plain Cave Crayfish.
This year's venue will have teams starting and transitioning within a pre-Civil War Plantation. The plantation is now home to a Texas Longhorn cattle ranch. Expect there to be some ranch style challenges throughout the race. Paddle gear (paddles/ vest / 3rd seat only) and bicycles will be transported by OTG. Our mission is to provide a well-designed race through an amazing venue where whether or not your team takes the podium or squeaks in at the end you'll have had a fantastic experience.
The OTG crew guarantees an adventure. This year's course design will be lead by Jake Brewer, Jeanette Ciesla and Erik Wise. If your team has done the work, prepped the necessary equipment, and can make good decisions on the fly then you might earn your spot at USARA Nationals.
The Cauldron is sanctioned by the United States Adventure Racing Association and is a Regional Qualifier for the USARA National Championship. The top finishing co-ed team will receive $400 toward entry!
