24 & 6 Hour Adventure Race
April 25, 2026

Back for its third year, the Sufferfest in the Styx returns with a vengeance on April 25, 2026, challenging racers to navigate one of Florida’s most enigmatic and ecologically diverse landscapes. The course spans miles of Newnans Lake shoreline and threads through two major tributaries, including Camps Canal and the legendary River Styx. This region is a mosaic of depression marshes, dome swamps, and the sprawling Gum Root Swamp, where shifting terrain and dense wetlands demand strategic route choices and relentless grit. For 2026, racers will face new route-finding challenges within the River Styx itself, adding a layer of mystery and complexity to an already formidable course.

Participants can choose to compete in one of the following categories: solo, 2-person, 3-person, or 4-person teams. Teams will be in either the coed or open (same-gender) divisions.

Course Design

The 6 hour adventure race is designed for newer or family teams looking to learn about the sport of adventure racing and challenge themselves in a beautiful environment. The navigation is designed to be easy to understand and traverse interesting landmarks on each discipline.

The 24 hour race is for more seasoned competitors with challenging navigation demanding strategic route choices. Many locations will be remote and difficult to get to but will have rarely seen and unique features and wildlife. Additionally, the 24 hour event will have racers moving after sundown introducing another layer of complexity to solve.

Everyone on the team needs to be present at check-in to receive maps and race instructions. Please read the following information about waivers, rules, and gear to be thoroughly prepared.

Waivers

Please download and fill out the Off the Grid Racing Liability Waiver form for each team member before arriving at check-in on race day. This will allow the process to go more smoothly and get everyone their maps and passports quickly so everyone has more time to prepare before race start.

Rules

Please download and review the Off the Grid Racing Rules List. A printed copy of this rules list is mandatory gear for each team racing.

Gear

Off the Grid Racing will provide all canoes, paddles, and PFDs. Teams are permitted to bring their own paddle gear. A teams paddle gear must be stored in a paddle bag, secured together, and well marked for easy retrieval. Please be aware that there may be times that teams using their own paddle gear will be required to transport that gear themselves. This will be indicated in the race instructions.

Please download and review the Mandatory Gear List. A printed copy of this list must be carried by all teams during the race. Any event may have a mandatory gear check at any point in a race.
